The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching

In The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching, Thich Nhat Hanh introduces us to the core teachings of Buddhism and shows us that the Buddha's teachings are accessible and applicable to our daily lives. With poetry and clarity, Nhat Hanh imparts comforting wisdom about the nature of suffering and its role in creating compassion, love, and joy--all qualities of enlightenment. Covering such significant teachings as the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, the Three Doors of Liberation, the Three Dharma Seals, and the Seven Factors of Awakening, The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching is a radiant beacon on Buddhist thought for the initiated and uninitiated alike.

5A wonderful intro to Buddhism  Jul 13, 2010
A great book. Many, many parts underlined in my copy. You could base your life on this book. Enjoy. Good luck.

5A good book that makes you think  Jul 01, 2010
This, like all spiritual books, must be applied. If one is to sit down and read this book from cover to cover and move on to his or her next book, it was a waste of time. What makes this book so great is how simple and applicable it is. It is divided into parts. After each part, pause and start to implement the practices. Then reading this book will become a very rewarding experience for any reader looking for help living a better life.

5as usualy thich nhat hanh is amazing  Apr 10, 2010
an excellent book. it's like listening to someone who truly knows what makes people suffer and therefore can easily explain how to remedy this. thich nhat hanh is one of the greatest buddhist authors of all time. in this book he explains, in detail, the buddhist teachings of the four noble truths and also of the eight fold path. it's complete with diagrams and in depth explanations of the human condition as well as solutions to emotional and moral dilemmas.

5Thich Nhat Hanh simplifies the Buddha's teachings  Mar 14, 2010
Wonderfully clear explanation of many of Buddha's teachings. I find the ancient Pali translations difficult, while Thich Nhat Hanh explains the practices in a modern, relevant, way. There is an intellectual honesty in TNH's writing, because it is evident he has personally experienced whatever he "preaches".

The Buddha was an eternal optimist, as is Thich Nhat Hanh. Of course, it depends upon concentrated practice to get the benefits of clear thinking and peace within.

Sincerely,
Steve Simon

5A master of compassionate mindfulness practice  Mar 05, 2010
Mindfulness practice is a path in which every step is a step of compassionate engagement with every aspect of your experience, whether walking, talking with a friend or working with the suffering and anguish that exists in our minds. Thich Nhat Hanh teaches us how to smile at every encounter with reality. I also recommend' The Path of Mindfulness Meditation' by Dr Peter Strong, an in-depth exploration of mindfulness meditation.
