5Excellent for independent trekkers  Jul 14, 2010
In September 2009 I've been to Gokyo, Base Camp - Kalapattar and Chhukung, and since I was trekking alone, without guide or porter, I had the chance to check out most of the book. I found out that the directions are spot-on, and the maps almost dumb proof: the book is as good as a real guide, or even better.

The general info and Kathmandu chapters are good, but may be found on other guidebooks as well. The real highlights are the detailed walking routes and maps for the Khumbu area above Lukla. Everything was right there as detailed in the book, and following the indications I had a safe and easy trek.

If you go for independent trekking, either camping or lodge/teahouse, this book is really priceless: It's a great help planning your trek, and it's all what you need to go trekking on your own - in Kathmandu you just can get a bigger map of the Khumbu area and you're ready to go.

You may not need the book if you hire a guide: a good one will lead you on the right trail - which is impossible to miss, anyway - and tell you all what you need to know, but it is still helpful to know exactly where you are, and your options for an afternoon walk or a different viewpoint here and there, plus many other info and data about everything around there.

So, the bottom line is: find a place for this book in your backpack!

5The best guide, A real lifesaver for planning your trip  Dec 05, 2009
My boyfriend purchased two guides to assist us in Trekking up to Gokyo Ri in our Nepal backpacking expedition. The book alone got us safely through the entire trip without ever becoming seriously lost (although it helps to be able to ask passing locals too). Best of all, we happened to bump into the author at a cafe in Kathmandu before the start of our trip!

5Excellent Guide  Oct 16, 2009
I have used other Trailblazer guides before and have found them to be extremely helpful in planning for a trek. This guide provides a concise overview of the country, culture and essential "need to know" information which make for a more enjoyable experience during your visit. If you have room for only one guide in your pack this would be a good choice.

5Everest region  Aug 02, 2009
Excellent book. Information is up to date. Having been there before, I see it is accurate, precise and written in a style to convey important information clearly and correctly. Anybody wishing to go to Nepal and in particular, the Everest region, must read this book first. This book is not available in Australia (and maybe some other countries)I have been keen to read this travel guide for a long time and now I have it. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

5The BEST trekking book I have ever used!!  Feb 18, 2009
Highly Recommended! I have trekked extensively in Nepal, including the Everest region three times, and this is the BEST trekking book I have ever used. Ever!

The maps are especially detailed and accurate - perfect! The trekking times are consistent and accurate, allowing me to plan how far I want to trek in a given day. I like the fact that the guidebook only focuses on one region, giving it a lot more detail. I even use the Kathmandu City Guide for my stay in Kathmandu.
