Sukhavati In Buddhism

In Buddhism Sukhavati is known as “Land” or “Land of Bliss”, being a heaven presided over by the Buddha Amitabha. It is conceived of as a place of extreme peace and happiness, exempt from suffering, where numerous means of obtaining spiritual merits are afforded. Beings reborn into Sukhavati are said to advance effortlessly toward enlightenment in the company of manifestations of beauty, guided by the wisdom of Amitabha. They often chant his name with the hope of rebirth into this Pure Land, so they may continue, in a fashion very conducive to them, their striving toward liberation. Sukhavati represents the ideal refuge from the cycle of birth and death: a land of great compassion and peace.
